RULES OF PLAY

Section 1 -- GOVERNING PLAY

All C.H.A. rules are in effect unless otherwise stated. The convenor has final authority concerning all rules and regulations including but not limited to suspensions and general discretion of conduct.

Section 2 -- TEAMS

Only registered players or those on the waiting list may play. A team shall be comprised of 9 or 10 players and 1 goalie, except where Novice and Tyke will dress 12 players and 1 goalie. The minimum requirement is 6 players, except in Novice and Tyke where it will be 8 players.

Section 3 -- REPLACEMENTS

Notification must be given to the convenor and opponent prior to the use of replacement players. Teams must use other registered players or those on a waiting list from your division or lower. Teams can only use up to 2 players and a 1 goalie. (Eg. You cannot have 3 players.)

Section 4 -- RULES OF PLAY

All games will be NON-CONTACT. No slap shots are allowed. When at the discretin of the referee, a player has taken a slop shot, the whistle will be blown and possession must be given up. All games will be 2- 20 minute non-stop time periods. Face-offs will occur only at the beginning of each period and at co-incidental penalties. When play is stopped either by the goalie controlling the puck or by a goal, the offensive team must entirely exit the zone. Once the blue line has been cleared they can resume attack into the zone. Referee will have discretion in assessing goalies delay of game penalties in the event they choose not to move the puck There is no center ice red line therefore no icing calls or offside passes. No one player may score more than 3 goals per period. All offside plays at the blueline, referee will blow play down, possession must be given up and the offensive zone must be cleared before re-entering. Teams do not switch ends after periods.

Section 5 -- SHIFTS

Shifts will be 1 minute in length. Buzzer will signal the end of the shift. Once buzzer sounds, players must leave the puck as it sits. No player may leave the bench until one of the exiting players is physically at the door. The goalie may play the puck at any time.

Section 6 -- PENALTIES

Minor penalties will result in a automatic penalty shot. The remaining players will line up on the defensive blue line and once the referee signals play, all players are will resume play. Co-incidentals will result in a face-off at centre ice. Any player assessed with 3 minor penalties will be ejected from the game. Body-checking, hitting from behind, boarding will be recorded as 2 penalties. Should the same player get 2 contact penalties, they will be ejected from the game. In the event of a delayed penalty and the team scores, the penalty will still be recorded. Major penalties will result in automatic ejection from the game. Two major penalties will result in ejection from the league.

Section 7 -- COACHES

Up to 3 coaches can be on the bench. Coaches are required to ensure that all players are given equal ice time. There is no shortening of the bench under any circumstance. Any inappropriate behavior on the bench will NOT be tolerated. Any coach ejected in a game for any purpose will result in suspension for the complete season.
